3G Sunset Support

How will the 3G shut down affect IoT/M2M device customers?

3G-only IoT devices may be unable to run once 3G network retires. You are encouraged to perform an audit and inventory to see if your devices are 2G and 4G compatible and update to newer technology.

What kind of IoT devices will be affected?

Any device that is manufactured or issued before 2018 may be impacted by the 3G shut down. This includes tablets, smartphones, GPS, alarm systems and general machinery. For further assistance, business customers can reach out to the respective account managers or contact our Business Support Centre team via bsc@digi.com.my or hotline: 016-2998888.

How will Digi assist the transition to 4G for IoT customers?

Digi will work closely with business customers to ensure a smooth transition and minimise any business disruption. We will update customers with any developments and give ample notice to allow all customers to safely migrate their devices to newer technologies. Digi will also support coverage checks and SIM card replacement requests throughout the migration process. For further assistance, business customers can reach out to the respective account managers or contact our Business Support Centre team via bsc@digi.com.my or hotline: 016-2998888.

Will Digi cover the cost of business migration?

Digi will have customer service staff on hand to support the business migration process, but customers are responsible for any device upgrades.

Will Digi continue to support 3G devices before the 3G network is shut down?

As per the government’s guidelines, we will not certify nor support the deployment of 3G equipment starting 2021. While 3G devices can continue to run until the specified shut down period, customers are encouraged to upgrade to 4G technology to maintain connectivity.

Do I need to replace my SIM card for 4G devices?

No, 4G SIM cards will continue to be supported and work as usual through this time.

Will I experience any coverage disruption?

Customers on 2G and 4G LTE networks will not experience any coverage disruption.

How do I upgrade my devices?

Please contact your respective device vendor or suppliers for further assistance on device migration.
