Digi calls for Malaysians to donate used devices under #MYBaikHati campaign to assist B40 students in e-learning

A year-long donation drive to begin in Klang Valley with two easy options to contribute

SUBANG JAYA, 18 MARCH 2021 – Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) is calling on Malaysians to be part of #MYBaikHati, a device crowdsourcing campaign to provide students from lower income (B40) community with improved access to digital learning and equal opportunity to stay ahead in today’s digital age.

Through the #MYBaikHati campaign, Digi is collecting used devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops from its employees, customers and the public, to be repurposed and distributed to B40 students. The year-long campaign kickstarted its pilot phase in Klang Valley yesterday, with plans to expand progressively nationwide in due course.

Philip Ling, Digi’s Head of Sustainability shares that the #MYBaikHati campaign is aligned with our Yellow Heart commitment to strengthen digital inclusivity and reduce inequalities amongst students through equal access to online learning.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted a critical importance for students to have affordable internet access and proper digital tools to enable online learning. While Digi has continuously worked hard to improve internet connectivity nationwide, we always believe that the goal to bridge digital gap can be more efficiently achieved when we join efforts with the public. #MyBaikHati campaign is a perfect opportunity for Malaysians to play their part in creating a sustainable impact for students in need.”

How can Malaysians contribute
To be part of this positive movement, those from Klang Valley can contribute through two easy options:

  • Register interest to donate on the Yellow Heart #MYBaikHati campaign page and arrange for a pick-up; or
  • Drop off devices at Digi’s designated collection points at Digi Store Klang or Digi Store Cheras.

Devices that are accepted are smartphones, 4G-enabled tablets, Chromebooks with Windows 8 and above and laptops, all preferably with the chargers intact. Accepted devices must be in working condition and show no major damage, while devices that do not meet requirements will be disposed responsibly.

Donated devices will be assessed, refurbished and subsequently distributed to eligible B40 students at selected Digi’s Pusat Internet Komuniti (PIK). Students from the lower income group may check their eligibility at the nearest PIK, where their names will be validated against the B40 list provided by the government.

As announced by the government yesterday, #MYBaikHati is a joint initiative by the telecommunications sector to crowdsource used devices to help facilitate digital learning for students in the B40 community.
