Shortlisted applicants can testtheir prototypeson the high-speed, low latency 5G technologyprovided at the 5G OpenLab
SUBANG JAYA, 25 NOVEMBER 2019 – Cyberview Sdn Bhd (Cyberview) and Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) are calling for more academics, universities, developers and registered businesses toapply to test their 5G use cases at the 5GOpenLab.
This call for more applications is founded on the belief that extensive testing and collaboration between multiple parties lead to more data insights that will help acceleratethe growth of the 5G ecosystem in the country.
Malaysia’s first 5G lab in Cyberview’s RekaScape opened its doors on 1 October 2019and received a total of 44 applications, of which 13 use cases got the green light to proceed to the testing phase, and 8tests havebeen carried out at the lab to date. The use cases come fromthe areasof Smart Healthcare, Smart City and Smart Mobility,and arein line with the national ambition to strengthen 5G collaboration among local tech businesses and developers.
Praveen Rajan, Digi’s ChiefDigital Officerbelieves that the best way to push for 5G adoption in the country is through acollaborative approach to build the 5G ecosystem together.
“Having a 5G-enabledlabdedicated to testingisan important and necessary step in facilitating the development of 5G in the nation, as it allows local developers the chance to innovate, createand grow.The initial test applications were encouraging and showed promisinguse cases. We believe there is a lot more potential to explore and are excited to uncover more innovation as more applications come through our doors,” saidPraveen.
Shafinaz Salim, theHead of Technology Hub Development Divisionsays that itis vital to ensure thatthe 5G OpenLab is in optimalconditionto provideapplicants with the ideal testing groundfor their use cases.RekaScape is built to be a holistic ground to create, connect, grow and innovate towards the frontier of limitless possibilities and this collaboration is in line with its vision to ultimately commercialise ideas.
“We are continuously engaging with applicants who have run tests at RekaScape to pinpoint any areas of improvement so as to better facilitate the next batch of testing,with hopes of being the catalyst for an empowered community of entrepreneurswho are not only ready for 5G, but are well-positioned to scale up and expand their businesses via 5G,”she said.
Located in Cyberview’s RekaScape, the 5G OpenLab is more than 1,100square feet collaborative space that will serve to advance new technology solutions and innovations with Digi and its technology partner, ZTE. Trials at the 5G OpenLab are conducted using 100MHz of the 3.5GHz spectrum where applicants can benefit from 5G’s super high speed, massive bandwidth and ultra-low latency connectivity in a live, controlled environment.
Interested academics, universities, developers and registered businesses are welcome to apply but must first have use cases ready to be tested in the Lab, related to the areas of smart cities, smart mobility, smart healthcare and creative digital content.
