Submissions are open for Yellow Heart ?Anti-Cyberbullying? Drawing Competition

Learn and draw with MY Art Studio-MY Craft Studio’s art competition in collaboration with Digi Yellow Heart

SUBANG JAYA, 24 MAY 2019 - Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) is collaborating with MY Art Studio-MY Craft Studio (MY Art) to create awareness and educate children on the potential of cyber risks and how they can be safer online through an art competition based on Yellow Heart’s Cyber Series videos.

Open to all students in primary and secondary schools from now until 5 July 2019, the competition requires the students to watch all five videos from Digi’s Yellow Heart CyberSAFE series, which were created in partnership with Google and CartoonHooligans last year. From the videos, the students will have to create a poster based on their understanding pertaining to the content and submit a free-hand drawing via post to MY Art.

According to Philip Ling, Digi’s Head of Sustainability, growing up as digital natives, more children are accessing the internet unsupervised at a younger age. This can sometimes put children at risk as they will be exposed to online scams, inappropriate content, online exploitation and virtual forms of bullying on their digital screens. We believe that children have the right to be protected on the internet against negative encounters such as harassment or hurtful comments and from malicious individuals they meet online, especially with the rise of “keyboard warriors” and child predators.

“As a long-time advocate on cyber safety among children, Digi believes in empowering our communities with responsible digital usage, strengthening digital resilience and taking actions to keep children safe online. The collaboration with MY Art explores art as a platform to reach more children and introduce a new way of creative learning around the topics of cyber risks and digital citizenship, which complements the Yellow Heart Cyber Series videos available on Digi’s Youtube,” Philip added.

Staggering statistics showed that nine out of ten children are connected to the Internet, and one in every four children in Malaysia experience some form of rejection, intimidation or harassment online every day.

Jeffers Lim, Director of MY Art Studio Malaysia said, “With the rise of cyber-bullying and cyber-grooming in today’s digital age, it is pertinent to equip our children with the right tools to protect themselves against these risks online. Through art, we believe young children will have a better grasp of imperative issues, particularly one as important as cyber safety”.
