SUBANG JAYA, 20 NOVEMBER 2019 –The monsoon season is underway and unrelenting heavy rainisfore casted to continue into the first few months of 2020. The situation is predicted to worsen by up to 40 per cent1 this year in the eastern coastal states of the peninsular where flash floods are prone to happen during this period, leaving people with little time to save their belongings and get themselves and loved ones to safety.
Although the relevant authorities are doing all they can to prepare and reduce the impact of flood, it is also everyone’s responsibility to prepare in advance and protect their home and family members. As part of its Yellow Heart initiative, Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) has come up with a Flood Preparedness Kit that contains information and instructions on what to do before flooding occurs, how to keep safe during a flood and steps to take after the flood subsides. It also has some handy tips on how flood victims can prolong the battery of their mobile devices to maximise communications in the event of flood, having to evacuate their homes.
Digi’s Head of Sustainability Philip Ling stresses the importance of staying alert and connected with the latest news during the monsoon season. “We believe that staying abreast with the current updates on the flood situation is important, especially in preparation for emergency situations. In line with our ongoing commitment to empower communities, we have compiled some flood tips to allow those who are residing in flood-prone areas to equip themselves with the do’s and don’ts of staying safe. This is also part of our ongoing flood relief preparation which includes pre-arrangements for deployment of flood aid, waterproof bags and power-banks which are already on standby at regional levels,” said Philip.
